Nurse Advocates for herself, thanks to Cochrane

I have worked as a registered nurse for the past 17 years, primarily in emergency and critical care settings. I know the value of having accurate, reliable, and quick-to-access health information to keep my practice evidence-based, as this improves overall patient outcomes. The Cochrane Library has also been helpful in my continuing education.

A year ago, I suddenly became the patient, as I suffered a cervical spinal cord compression injury, which resulted in emergency surgery and complications. Last week, as I was seeing a specialist regarding neurological concerns, he offered to start me on a certain drug. Fortunately, I had already reviewed the drug on Cochrane, so I began describing its low efficacy, and profound side effects, which would have increased my risk of falling. He replied, "Yes, let's not start you on that after all."

Voila, I just became my own advocate, thanks to Cochrane. This is just one of the many great results I've had from doing a Cochrane search.
