The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR) has a 2011 Impact Factor of 5.715, ranking it in the top 10 out of 153 journals in the Medicine, General and Internal category.
The Impact Factor is a tool used to measure, rank and compare journals. It’s calculated by taking the number of times a journal has been cited in the past two years and dividing it by the number of publications it has released during that time period.
The 2011 Journal Citation Report, released by Thomson ICI, states that the CDSR was cited 29,593 times in 2011: an increase from 27,366 in the previous year. The CDSR published 1351 new and updated Cochrane Reviews in 2011 compared to 1128 in 2010. This means that CDSR has the highest number of published articles in the Impact Factor calculation – nearly double the closest journal, which is New England Journal of Medicine.
In the past five years, the CDSR has a combined Impact Factor of 6.217, once again ranking it in the top 10 journals of its category.
